CNA Training Structure

  • Classroom Learning The program covers safe and efficient work practices, legal and ethical responsibilities, basic patient care, care of the elderly patient, nutrition, and restorative activities. The training includes:
    • Basic Healthcare Worker – 90 hours
    • Nurse Aid and Orderly (Articulated) – 75 hours
  • Clinical Experience Students complete 40 hours of clinical time, working directly with patients and nurses at hospitals and other patient care facilities. This hands-on experience is essential for developing practical nursing assistant skills in real healthcare environments.
  • Exam Preparation After successful completion of the program, students receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to take the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant State Exam. This certification is required to gain employment at Lee Health and other healthcare facilities as a CNA.

Admission Requirements

  • Prospective students must be 18 years of age, or a high school graduate, or its equivalent by the first day of class
  • Due to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, students must either have immunization against hepatitis B or sign a declination statement
  • Immunizations (including MMR, Varicella, and Flu vaccine) and a two-step skin test for TB are required two weeks prior to class start time
  • All Health Science Education programs require applicants to obtain a drug screen and Level 2 background screen due two weeks prior to admission

CNA Class Schedule & Flexibility

The Nursing Assistant Articulated program offers a full-time daytime schedule:

  • Class Time: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Clinical Time: Starts at 6:30 am, with varying end times

The program also previously offered a Long Term Care program with evening classes (Tuesday & Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.), but this option may not be currently available. Please contact the program directly for the most up-to-date schedule options.

Tuition & Financial Aid Information

The total estimated cost of the Nursing Assistant Articulated program ranges from $1,223.50 to $1,282. Additional expenses may include:

  • $45 non-refundable application fee per program enrollment
  • $30 Applied Academic for Adult Education fee (for some students)
  • Hepatitis B immunization cost (approximately $175)
  • Other required immunizations and testing costs
