CNA Training Structure

  • Classroom Learning
    The program covers interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, safe and efficient work practices, gerontology, nutrition, pet-facilitated therapy, health and safety, and employability skills. Four hours of HIV/AIDS education and one hour of domestic violence education are also included. Classes provide a solid foundation in theory and principles of basic patient care.
  • Clinical Experience
    Students complete 40 hours of clinical training in local healthcare facilities, providing hands-on experience in actual patient care settings. This practical component allows you to apply classroom knowledge in real-world situations under the supervision of experienced instructors.
  • Exam Preparation
    The program is designed to prepare students for the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant Examination. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to take the state certification exam in accordance with Florida Statutes 464.203. Information and applications for the state exam are obtained from Prometric.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old
  • Complete the Daytona State College admission process online or at any campus Admissions Office
  • Must register for the CNA class (PRN0090)
  • Attend a mandatory orientation session prior to beginning the program
  • Submit the following health documentation before the first day of class:
    • Completed physical examination
    • Verification of a negative tuberculin skin test or chest X-ray
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Proof of required immunizations including influenza, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19 (or approved declination forms for certain vaccines)
    • Cleared Level II background check and negative drug screening

CNA Class Schedule & Flexibility

The CNA program at Daytona State College offers evening classes to accommodate working adults and students with daytime commitments:

  • Evening Session (Daytona Beach Campus, Building 320, Health Sciences Hall)
    • Monday: 5:00 p.m. – 9:50 p.m. (Lecture)
    • Tuesday: 5:00 p.m. – 9:50 p.m. (Lab/Clinical)
    • Wednesday: 5:00 p.m. – 9:50 p.m. (Lab/Clinical)

  • Assessment Fee: $34-$35
  • Access Fee: $4.64-$20
  • Lab Fees (including liability insurance): $24-$28.50

The program is not eligible for federal and state financial aid due to its length. However, students are encouraged to explore the Daytona State College Foundation scholarships, including the Halifax Health Education to Employment Scholarship for healthcare students. How to Apply

To enroll in the Daytona State College CNA program, follow these steps:

  2. Register for the CNA class (PRN0090)
  3. Attend the mandatory orientation session (for Spring 2025, orientation is February 10, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. in Room 328)

    • Physical examination
    • TB test
    • Level II background check including drug screening and fingerprinting
    • CPR-Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
  5. Submit all required paperwork including physical form, immunization records or lab titers, and copy of CPR card by the first day of class
