CNA Training Structure

  • Classroom Learning The program includes comprehensive theory instruction through NRN-343 CNA Theory course. You’ll learn to function as a patient care assistant within the healthcare team through lectures and simulated nursing skills practice. Topics covered include roles and responsibilities of nursing assistants, client care basics, safety measures, body systems, nutrition, hydration and elimination needs, body mechanics, and infection control processes.
  • Clinical Experience The NRN-344 CNA Skills Lab/Clinical course provides hands-on training in a college laboratory followed by clinical practice in a hospital or long-term care facility. You’ll learn to calculate and record vital signs, identify different types of wounds, perform basic dressing changes, provide safe positioning and transferring, and practice restraint care.
  • Exam Preparation The program prepares you for the Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNA) state registry exam. The curriculum covers all requirements needed to meet Maryland Board of Nursing standards for certification.

Admission Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must attend a mandatory information session before enrolling
  • English as a Second Language students must earn a composite score of 310 or better on the Level of English Proficiency exam, or successfully complete Capstone Level ESL coursework
  • Clinical training requires written documentation of:
    • MMR and Varicella immunity
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within the last 12 months
    • Hepatitis B immunity or waiver
    • Current flu and COVID vaccinations
  • The Maryland Board of Nursing requires fingerprinting, background checks, and drug screening for certification

CNA Class Schedule & Flexibility

Classes are offered in the evening from 5:30 PM to 9:45 PM on varying days. The program runs for approximately two months, with specific dates varying by term. For example, the Winter 2025 session runs from February 17, 2025, to April 28, 2025, at the Glen Burnie Town Center location.
