CNA Training Structure

Classroom Learning

The classroom portion of LRCC’s Licensed Nursing Assistant program consists of 46 hours of theory and lab instruction. Classes are delivered in a hybrid format using the college’s Canvas learning management system combined with in-person sessions at the LRCC campus. Theory/lab classes are typically held on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with make-up sessions scheduled on Thursdays when needed.

Clinical Experience

Students complete 60 hours of supervised clinical training at local healthcare facilities, including nursing homes and hospitals. Clinical rotations give students direct patient care experience and the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real healthcare settings. Clinicals are generally scheduled as full-day sessions (7:00 am to 3:00 pm) on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Exam Preparation

The program includes preparation for the NH state competency examination, which students must pass to obtain their LNA license. The State Competency Exam is scheduled shortly after program completion, with the college offering testing services for students. The program includes review sessions and provides access to exam preparation materials, including the EXCEL testing company’s Nurse’s Aide Skills DVD available in the college library.

Admission Requirements

To participate in the LNA clinical portion of the program at hospital settings, students must provide documentation of:

  • Clean NH Criminal Background check and Bureau of Adult Services (BEAS) screening
  • Satisfactory results from a 10-panel drug screen (completed within 30 days prior to clinical start)
  • Physician documentation of required immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles) – 2 vaccines or proof of immunity
    • Mumps – 2 vaccines or proof of immunity
    • Rubella – 2 vaccines or proof of immunity
    • Varicella (chicken pox) – 2 vaccines or proof of immunity
    • Hepatitis B – 2 vaccines or proof of immunity
    • Tetanus – vaccine within last 10 years or documentation of Tdap booster
    • TB Tests – 2 tests planted and read in last 12 months, or a Quantiferon Gold Test, or a T-spot with negative results
  • Proof of current health insurance
  • COVID-19 vaccination (required by hospital clinical sites with no exceptions)
  • Completion of hospital orientation modules
  • ESOL assessment if English is not the primary language

CNA Class Schedule & Flexibility

LRCC offers flexible scheduling options to accommodate different student needs:

  • Evening Theory Classes: Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Daytime Clinical Rotations: Typically Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Make-up Sessions: Thursday evenings for any missed Tuesday classes
  • Program Formats: Both semester-long and accelerated LNA courses are available
  • Start Dates: Multiple start dates throughout the year, with the next class beginning May 13, 2025

The Summer 2025 schedule includes theory classes from May through July, with clinical rotations in June and July. The State Competency Exam is scheduled for July 28, 2025. The college provides a detailed calendar for each cohort, outlining specific dates and times for all program components.
