CNA Training Structure

Classroom Learning

The Nursing Assistant program at UBTech teaches students essential healthcare skills needed to assist Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in providing total bedside care. Classroom topics include patient care procedures, medical law and ethics, patient/staff/environmental safety, infection control, CPR, anatomy and physiology, common medical disorders, and appropriate interventions. Students also learn to take and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

Clinical Experience

As part of the nursing assistant program, students complete a minimum of 24 hours of hands-on clinical training in care centers under the supervision of clinical instructors. This practical experience allows students to apply their classroom knowledge in real healthcare settings while receiving guidance from experienced professionals.

Exam Preparation

The program prepares students for the two-part state CNA examination, which consists of a written portion and a skills demonstration portion. UBTech provides CNA Skills and Written Testing at both campus locations, making it convenient for students to complete their certification process. The written exam consists of 75 multiple-choice questions, while the skills exam tests practical abilities needed in the workplace.

Admission Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old for high school students
  • Reading proficiency at grade 9 level
  • Math proficiency at grade 9 level
  • ACT score of 19 equals grade level 12, score of 18 equals grade level 11

CNA Class Schedule & Flexibility

UBTech offers flexible scheduling options to accommodate different student needs:

  • Roosevelt Campus: Classes run Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm
  • Vernal Campus: Day classes run Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, with an evening option Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

The program features open-entry/defined-exit enrollment, allowing students to begin their studies at any time and progress at their own pace within the program structure. The program is available to both adult learners and secondary (high school) students.

Tuition & Financial Aid Information

The total cost of the UBTech Nursing Assistant program is $534, which includes:

  • Tuition: $350
  • Fees: $3
  • Books and Supplies: $181

Additional expenses include:

  • Scrubs for clinical work (required)
  • Closed-toe shoes (white, black, or grey)
  • Watch with a second hand

Students may choose, but are not required, to purchase a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.

Scholarships are available through UBTech. The program is VA eligible but not Pell eligible. In 2022, UBTech established partnerships with Moon Lake Electric Association and Rocky Mountain Power Foundation to provide additional scholarship opportunities for non-traditional students in the region.
