    The program is designed to prepare students to successfully test for licensure with the Vermont State Board of Nursing. Students must maintain an 80% academic average throughout the program and earn a minimum of 80% on their final exam to be eligible to test for licensure.

Admission Requirements

  • Language proficiency: Students must be able to speak, read, and write American English at a 6th-grade level. Candidates may be referred to Vermont Adult Learning for assessments of their English language and reading skills.
  • Physical abilities: Applicants may not have physical or behavioral problems that would prevent them from performing essential LNA duties, including the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, walk a minimum of 50 feet without physical difficulty, have adequate vision to read instructions and give safe care, hear blood pressures with an amplified stethoscope, and be free from drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Background requirements: Student applicants with unpaid taxes, child support, past criminal convictions, or drug dependence must contact the Board of Nursing about necessary actions to be eligible for licensure. Applicants currently on parole, probation, or with pending criminal charges are not eligible until these matters are resolved.
  • Age and education: If a student is under 18 years old or does not have a high school diploma/GED, they must schedule an informational interview to determine program fit.
